Chris Bramall, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Stourbridge, has signed up to Macmillan's "Vote cancer support" campaign.

Chris Bramall says: "A number of voters have contacted me about this campaign. Of course I have for years been aware of the marvellous work done by Macmillan's - and the support of Macmillan's was really important for my own father in the last stages of his life. So I have been happy to pledge support for:

• better support to help the two million people living with and after cancer to get their lives back after treatment;

• fairer access to cancer drugs for people with rarer cancers;

• more nursing support so that people dying from cancer are supported to die at home if they so wish.

"My party - the Liberal Democrats - are fully on board at the national level as to this very important issue. The LibDems are committed to providing high quality care to cancer patients throughout their treatment and after their treatment. Currently there is no strong framework for helping cancer patients to get back into work, a situation that must be rectified.

"Local NHS trusts are not accountable to the patients that they serve. We would introduce directly elected health boards. For the rarest types of cancer, the NICE approval processes must be made flexible to ensure that patients do not miss out on vital, life-saving or life-extending treatment.

"We support the work of Macmillan's in providing community nursing for those who suffer from cancer. Community nursing gives patients greater independence and a higher quality of life."
