Lib Dem campaigner chosen for Wollaston and Stourbridge Town - June Collins to fight key Stourbridge seat in May elections
At a meeting of the Executive of the Stourbridge and Halesowen Liberal Democrats at the Plough Inn, Wollaston on Monday 1st March, former councillor June Collins was unanimously endorsed as the prospective Liberal Democrat candidate for Wollaston and Stourbridge Town.
June Collins says: "I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to be the Liberal Democrat candidate to represent Wollaston and Stourbridge Town ward in the local elections on 6th May. I was invited by the Lib Dems to join them in 2000 and regained a seat on Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, which I held until 2004.
"During my 14 years as a local councillor I helped hundreds of people, many with housing problems and a variety of other worries - anyone who contacted me I went to see them. If elected in May, I will:
• Fight for a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Apley Road and High Street Wollaston
• Ask for traffic calming measures in Cobden Street and Duncombe Street
• Try to get a 20 mph speed limit in the old quarter in Stourbridge
• Fight for strict enforcement of the 30mph speed limit in Gladstone Road
• Do my best to ensure that the archive material at present in Stourbridge Library remains there
• Oppose any further night club or lap dancing establishments in Stourbridge
• Try again to get bollards or fencing round the large island on Kingsway."
Chris Bramall says: "For the last 12 years the ward has been a battleground between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. June is a really strong candidate, and it is excellent news for the LibDems - and for the people of Wollaston and Stourbridge Town - that she has agreed to stand again."
