What is Happening in Stourbridge High Street?

The High Street has many problems. It is far too congested to allow pedestrians to move about safely or for emergency vehicles to have speedy access. Long-time resident Vera Johnson has written to say:
"The other week the traffic in the High Street was at a complete standstill, bumper-to-bumper along the whole street. In the middle were two police cars with their lights flashing and their sirens going, unable to move."
We have all seen similar situations? How can ambulances get down in an emergency? We say something can and should be done now:
○ The double yellow lines in the High Street should be removed, except

opposite the bus stop. Longer term the bus could have its own bay -
here at least the pavement is more than wide enough.

○ The council should make up its mind about the disabled parking bays,
introduced a few months ago - they are to be scrapped!

○ Cars parked on double yellow lines on the corner of Market St hold
up larger vehicles and should be fined.

Surely the time has come for Dudley MBC to help retail businesses in Stourbridge buck the recession by letting Stourbridge shoppers off the parking hook? Wasn't it a disgrace that Conservative Dudley councillors gave Merry Hill traders a helping hand the recession by letting them off their obligation to charge parking fees - but didn't give traders in Stourbridge Town Centre the same help. Now, with the closing of the Crown Centre car park and the disruption caused by the Tesco development, Stourbridge traders will need help even more. So now is the time, Dudley. First, remove all parking charges from the Stourbridge car parks. Second, allow two hours'
parking in all the on-street parking places instead of just one hour. And third, abandon the double yellow lines except where parking causes real obstruction
