New web site in fight to safeguard civil liberties

The Liberal Democrats today launched a new anti-ID Card web site, as their latest weapon in the fight against the introduction of compulsory Identity Cards. The Shepway Liberal Democrats backed the new site, as part of their ongoing support for the No2Id campaign.

Unfair Council Tax continues to rise

Following predictions from the Local Government Association that council tax will rise by an average of 7% next year, the Liberal Democrats have revealed the impact this will have on council tax bills across England. Householders in the East and West Midlands will see their average council tax bill rises to over £1000 a year for the first time.

Government block 'No war without approval' Bill

The Government has blocked Clare Short's Private Members Bill aimed at trying to limit the government's power to send British troops to war without parliamentary approval. Sir Menzies Campbell, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, said "Parliament missed a rare opportunity to assert its authority over the executive. To send British troops into battle is the ultimate responsibility and it should be one for Members of Parliament"

Lib Dem MP accuses Government of abusing Parliamentary Procedure!

Rochdale's Lib Dem MP has described the Labour Government of treating their colleague - Former Cabinet Minister Clare Short disgracefully after "talking out" her Private Member's Bill last Friday afternoon. Ms Short's Bill was called the "Armed Forces (Parliamentary Approval for Participation in Armed Conflict) Bill".
