LIB DEMS TAKE CONTROL OF THE COUNCIL EXECUTIVE

It was smiles all round on Thursday when Cllr Sue Smith arrived at Woking Borough Council surrounded by her jubilant team to take control of Woking. The promise to residents is an attitude of openness, transparency, accountability and genuine consultation - not deciding first and then consulting. At the Council meeting that followed Sue outlined the Lib Dem programme for the year which includes introducing Neighbourhood Forums with genuine commitment to putting local people at the heart of decision making stating "what we can do is bring a different attitude to government".

Sign up now to scrap Strasbourg

Liberal Democrat MEPs are asking Epping Forest residents to back a new campaign to scrap the monthly European travelling circus to Strasbourg. A Liberal initiative, the 'One Seat' petition (www.oneseat.eu) needs the support of one million EU citizens before being given to the European Commission in protest against an absurd agreement that is costing EU taxpayers 200 million euros a year.

Rowen "On the bus" for Green Transport Week.

Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson and Rochdale MP, Paul Rowen will be undertaking a review of bus services in Rochdale for Green Transport Week. This will be held between 10th and 18th June. Paul is asking bus passengers to get in touch with him and let him know any problem routes. Paul will then meet them on that bus out and do a questionnaire with other passengers and discuss the problems during their journey. He will then take these results and send them to the GMPTE and demand action.

Public Urged to Renew Passports Early to Escape ID Card Charges

Devon and Cornwall's Liberal Democrat MPs have added their voices to the growing NO2ID campaign which encourages people to renew their passports to avoid having personal details recorded from 2008. The Identity Cards Act was introduced earlier this year and means that everyone who applies for a passport will have to have details such as fingerprints and iris scans taken and stored on the National Identity Database. But by renewing passports now, before the database is set up, details can be kept off it until 2016.
